According to the CDC, drug overdose deaths in Virginia have increased by over thirty percent since 2019, so HYPE is more determined than ever to provide high-quality ARTS care to our community. We started on our ARTS journey in 2016 in response to the needs of that community. Since then, we have evolved to offer addiction recovery care at multiple levels. The American Society of Addiction Medicine, or ASAM, describes several phases of the “Continuum of Care.” HYPE offers services at several of these levels, starting at Level 1.
Peer support services are provided by workers who have gone through their own recovery process successfully and are empowered to help others who want to recover. Their goals at this level of care are to help people stay engaged in the recovery process and to reduce the likelihood of relapse. They are assigned to work with participants on a one-on-one basis as well as in groups.
Sometimes referred to as “Substance Abuse Intensive Out-Patient,” or SAIOP, level 2.1 is great for persons with co-occurring disorders—i.e., both a substance use disorder (SUD) and a mental health disorder. Persons in 2.1 receive 9 to 20 hours of treatment per week and are in regular contact with an array of practitioners from physicians to therapists to psychiatrists. Often, at this level of care, participants are able to work, attend school, and otherwise go about their lives while attending SAIOP programming.
Also known as "day treatment", these programs provide 20 or more hours of intensive treatment per week. They are designed to meet the needs of people with addiction and co-occurring conditions. PHP programs include a variety of services, such as individual and family counseling, group services, psychiatric and medical services, and substance abuse counseling. They are usually less restrictive than inpatient care.
Level 3.1 is the is a more intensive level of residential care available under ASAM. Treatment will focus on topics like recovery skills, relapse prevention, and managing emotions. Our 3.1 treatment is capable of treating co-occurring disorders. Services at this level include outpatient substance abuse services, a structured recovery environment, 24-hour staffing, house meetings, and a community that promotes living skills.
At our 3.5 Level of Care, we provide a structured, safe, and supportive environment for individuals seeking to overcome substance use challenges. Our intensive residential program offers 24/7 care, combining evidence-based therapies, peer support, and holistic approaches. This level of care is designed for those who need more hands-on support to develop the tools for long-term recovery. We empower you to break the cycle, heal deeply, and regain control of your life.
